I'm delighted to see a halloween costume shop open in the former Buck-a-Book site. An employee at the bookstore as it was closing told me a mini-mart was moving into the space. I hope this isn't the case after halloween.

I'm working there part time for the month (come say hi this Monday or Tuesday evening!) and the word I've received is still unclear. There'd been an earlier rumor of CVS moving into the space, but now I'm hearing 7-11. I don't really see the point as there's a Store24 right across the street, but sadly, the owner may not care beyond pulling in the high rent.

CVS

I know there was an announcement sent around to local businesses months ago that a CVS was trying to or had received permission to build/open in the building that faces the square and is bordered by Dover and Day Streets.

Like Davis _needs_ another mini-mart!

The least they could do is stay open all night, unlike Store 18. But I think zoning might prohibit it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that (or maybe not zoning, but something legalistic) is the explanation I've been given for Store 18 :) I wonder if they could be talked into making an exemption to that law for convenience stores/pharmacies? Because it would be really useful to have a pharmacy type place open 24 hours a day!

Humm. Rumor I heard a while back was that it was going to become a restaurant. But I guess that didn't come through.

Yeah, there's apparently a Somerville rule that businesses can't be open more than 18 hours, or some such. I've heard Diesel Cafe would like to stay open later at night, but would lose out on morning coffee business if they shift hours.

You! Ah, I keep forgetting who you are, and then seeing you pop up somewhere.

Spooky.

That's good to know - but if you wake up at 3 a.m. feeling absolutely lousy, and you're out of your favorite headache treatment (or whatever), and you live right in Davis, walking a couple blocks to Store 18 or Walgreens would be doable, whereas making the trek to Porter would be out of the question.
