Remember that we didn't get into WW II to save the Jews, or even to save Europe. We were motivated to preserve our own safety, and acted only once the US itself was attacked. The idea that w should save, or at least improve, the rest of the world has only been policy starting in maybe 1950, and it seems, ending in 2017.
