Local business changes

• For those who hadn't seen yet, Johnny D's was completely torn down this past week. Despite the plan to build condos/apartments above it and repurpose the space for retail, their engineers apparently said the old building couldn't support floors above.

• The old Snappy Ramen location on Highland will be opening soon as a branch of Tsurumen Ramen, an Osaka-based ramen mini-chain that apparently had a location in Hawaii and a NYC pop-up until recently.

• Kor Tor Mor (former Golden Light location) has a website up and says they'll be open within a week or so.

Any idea why Snappy didn't reopen as scheduled at iYO's former location? The Snappy signs aren't even up there anymore.

They're still going to open there, but it's confusing. A few weeks back the big Snappy signs disappeared, replaced by a large banner that said something like DEAR CUSTOMERS, COMING SOON with a lot of text underneath; I was going to check it out the next day when I had time, but it quickly vanished. But they have photos on their Facebook page of work in progress at the old iYo location.

College kids do love their pricey ramen.

I also noticed that Taipei Tokyo is closed for refurbishment, and according to Eater Boston may be turning into a Mongolian hot pot place called Hulun Beir (so, thankfully, not more ramen).

I would so rather have thai street food and hot pot than ramen, but maybe that's just me. excited for these new places!

Hasn't Davis Square learned from its past?! Pinkberry, Orange Leaf and iYo - ALL GONE. Pokeworks and OGinger opened so close together, and I think Ive seen 2 tables full at OGinger at the most. WHY TWO RAMEN PLACES AT ONCE!? We need a go-to pizza place for single slices (not fried dough like Oath) ala Antonio's in Amherst or any slice shop in NYC.

From the look of their Facebook page, I think the old Snappy location may still be owned by them, but used as the new Tsukumen Ramen location, while they also have their new location as well; I'm hoping their much larger new spot will allow for a larger menu than just ramen, or you're right, they definitely won't last long.

Mike's used to offer slices and I know Davis Square Pizza still does. Doesn't Christo's?

I know beggars shouldnt be choosers, but pizza from those two spots are inedible. If Flatbread Co offered slices, I'd be satisfied. But pizza from places that are non-dedicated pizza places is not what we need. Something like Otto in Harvard would be great!

Snappy Kitchen opened yesterday in the old iYo space with a full menu of sushi, gyoza, ramen, and other Japanese foods.
