slow & steady apartment search
May. 15th, 2006 04:55 pmOne of the moderators suggested to another poster who was apartment-hunting to post what they were looking for here in case someone who already lives in Davis Square knows of a just-right apartment opening up in their neighborhood.
So, this is what I'm hoping to find:
Must-Haves
-- first-floor
-- two-bedroom
-- five separate rooms minimum (not LR/DR combo)
-- laundry (free or pay) in the building
-- decent closet space
-- one declawed cat okay
-- porch or yard usage (somewhere I can sit in a chair with a book)
-- within five not-speedy walking minutes of Davis Square-proper (JP Licks, Diesel, Mike's, etc.)
-- non-smoking building/house
Would-Likes
-- eat-in kitchen
-- attic or dry basement storage
-- an adopted sibling for our declawed kitty okay
-- hardwood floors
-- quiet neighbors because we are *very* quiet tenants (we keep a no-shoes, no blaring music, no alcohol household)
-- ideally between Davis and Mass. Ave. (say, from Cameron to Beech St.), but the triangle between College and Holland would be good, too
We are hoping to find a new place for no more than $1750month (with utilities as part of that).
I know the right place is out there. I *almost* found one last month ($1650 util. incl.), but the fifth room was too tiny to really fit anything except a desk and chair, and maybe a bookcase. (But it did have a cute, pocket-sized sunroom!) We have time to look for the right place.
I work in Davis and we talk walks to Davis, go to the theater in Davis, eat out in Davis...we want to LIVE in Davis. :)
(Moderators, if I misunderstood and this kind of post is NOT allowed, tell me and I'll remove it immediately or you can delete it and I apologize.)

Date: 2006-05-16 03:44 am (UTC)We're a non-profit professional and a graduate student looking for a place in the Davis/Porter area (though we may expand our search to other Red Line squares). Hopefully something long-term and with a real live landlord instead of some company. Right now we're living a block from Davis, but we'd prefer something a little less expensive, maybe on a quieter street.
Preferences (in order of, er, preference):
- cat friendly
- large one bedroom
- September move-in
- multi-family (more like a triple-decker, less like a mid-rise)
- ten minute walk from Davis or Porter
- owner occupied or owner managed
- gas stove
- hardwood floors
- closet space
- natural light
- laundry in building
- storage space
- additional room for study
- yard
We'd like to spend less than what we're paying now, which is $1400 with utilities. The hunt is just getting started - any leads would be really appreciated!
