what happened to the building at One Davis Square? All of a sudden (or so it seemed) one day it was empty with a piece of paper on the door that said all the tenants were out and the building was closed. Seemed strange...

Also, anyone have any news on what is going to go into the former CD Diggers (?) storefront on Highland? There is renovation work and the posted permit seems to indicate a possible kitchen addition...

Finally, I heard a rumor from a well-respected neighborhood barkeep who told me that there was significant interest in a restaurant going into the vacant space in the bank building directly across from Gargoyles, but that the neighbors adjacent to the building protested the idea. Was this the case?

Sorry, got to get all my questions out at once...

I heard there was a CVS going in at One Davis Square, probably here several weeks ago.

I heard there was an Italian restaurant with a sister spot in the North End going in at One Davis.

I hope so, Antonia's really sucks. It'd be nice to have an alternative.

yeah

I heard that here too. If it's gonna be a chain, I'd much rather see Trader Joe's -- easy access to good grocery store is the big thing we're missing since moving here.

We discussed the redevelopment plans for One Davis here in this community, with a few followup posts.

For other stuff related to development and local businesses, check for posts here with the "development" and "local businesses" tags.

(and now I'm going to add those tags to this post :)

I don't think it sucks, but there you go.

No, Limoncello restaurant is going into the Buck-a-Book and Mini-mart space. It was recently discussed here.

To answer the other questions...

A few days ago, someone posted a speculation that Central Bank would expand into the former Disc Diggers space. This hasn't been confirmed.

Yes, neighbors did prevent Mr. Crepe and some other restaurant from moving into the Citizens Bank building, a year or more ago. I think rodent control was the main issue raised at the time. Also, since it was built as an office suite it probably would need substantial refitting (for instance, ventilation) to make it suitable for a restaurant.

I'm with you, I love that place. Bummer that they took away the outdoor seating, though.

That's horrible. . .

God, I miss Mr. Crepe! I would have loved to have seen it in the Citizens Bank building.

Pizza's nice, but Mr. Crepe would have been even better! I really miss that place. The expanded DFP is nice, but their ham and cheese crepes were just delicious.

It's annoying that a local business like that can't find a place in the Square without neighbor opposition. I'd much rather see Mr. Crepe than some chain fast food restaurant or something.
