ArtBeat Festival activities @ McIntyre and Moore Booksellers:
Day of festival activities: Sat., July 15
From 1pm to 2:30pm, Somerville Writers will present recent works in this year’s “WordPlay” literary event. In keeping with this year’s ArtBeat “reCycle/reNew” theme, readings will reference and recast famous literary works. Throughout the day, Somerville writers will display their published and unpublished works at a table outside of the bookstore; copies of books will be available for sale at the store.
Throughout July
On July 15th, there will be a one-day outdoor exhibit called "Pure Junk" located on a traffic island in the heart of the festival. The show features artists and sculptors who exemplify how discarded objects can be recast in fresh, ingenious ways. During the month of July, “Pure Junk” works will also hang in the windows of McIntyre & Moore Booksellers, including: Daniel Maher’s stained glass window, which incorporates old candy jar lids; Pauline Lim’s mixed media piece entitled "A clock with everything in it"; Anne Kircheimer’s installations "Broken Marriage" (with a suitcase/wedding dress/dishes) & "Homogenized Milk bottles"; Amanda Matthews’ handmade books and handmade art coats; and Jeannie Dunnigan’s portraiture in mixed media and shredded junk mail.
