Someday Cafe: last day is Saturday, Aug. 12

According to signs posted in the window, the Someday Cafe's last official day of operation at 51 Davis Square will be Saturday, August 12. Also, the cafe will close at 9 pm each day, starting on Monday, July 31. The Wiffiti board came down a few days ago.

The Someday's employees are trying to find a new space in Davis Square where they can reopen as an employee-owned business. You can read their statement here. There was supposed to be a restauraunt going in at 400 Highland, the storefront is all renovated, but as of a week ago it was empty-looking and had a For Lease sign in the window. That could be a potential place.

There was in fact a restaurant at 400 Highland. It closed a week ago. I posted about it a day or so later.

It's a very large space, probably much too big for the Someday. It looks hard to subdivide, too.

I know the issue is moot, but why couldn't Mr. Crepe have taken the empty storefront next to the Singer Sewing shop. Formerly a convenience store, it is a narrow but deep space very similar to Mr. Crepe's old space next to Dave's Fresh Pasta. Not enough space, I would think, for Someday, but would work for Mr. Crepe (unless there were restrictions on getting a kitchen into that space).

Ah, but as I said, moot point I guess.
