Save Our Somerville

Those who remember the thread a few weeks back about "yuppie-haters" might be interested to know that the Save Our Somerville group is holding a community meeting this coming Thursday at 6:00p.m. at Lexington Park.  All are welcome (I'll be sitting in the yuppie section, hopefully not alone.)

Thanks for forwarding this! One correction, though. I believe the event is actually at 6:00, though, not 7:00. From the Lexington Park mailing list (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lexingtonpark/),

Teen Empowerment has an event planned on Wednesday, so the Lexington
Park dialog will be at 6 pm on THURSDAY. We hope anyone interested in
the community will come to the meeting. Please tell anyone who is
interested about the change.

Also, thank you Susie for your support. I'm glad two groups of people
with such opposing passionate thoughts on issues were able to resolve
our issues.

On the subject of the name Save Our Somerville: We meant the Our part
to be anyone who wants to have an invested interest in Somerville. We
want ANYONE that wants to be a part of the community. We do, however,
have a special interest in people who feel alienated, but we're not
exclusive. We also chose the name because SOS just sounds cool.

Lexington Park, by the way, is at the intersection of Hancock and the bike path, across from the secret donut factory.

I'd like to note that 'Kill a Yuppie' graffiti has popped up in Cambridgeport. Which seems a little like going to Antarctica to spray 'Kill an Iceberg', but hey.

I used to live on Lexington very near the secret donut factory, and after a few months the smell of donuts made me nauseated. And I still couldn't figure out exactly which building was the donut factory!

It would bother me if adults were doing it, but since the group is called Teen Empowerment, I tend to think of it as kids doing what kids do. I hated yuppies before I became one (and hated just about everyone else, to boot.)

My wife went there the other week and was told that not only could she not buy donuts at the backdoor, but that, in stark contrast with reality, one *never* could have in the past, either.

But if you're going to have a factory in a residential area, a donut factory is about as innocuous as it gets. And I like smelling them, especially when they're making apple-cinnamon things.

i don't believe that anyone associated with Teen Empowerment had anything to do with the graffiti mentioned.

I believe that "Teen Empowerment" and "SOS" are two different groups, although a few members may overlap.

In particular, there's a family with three brothers trying to be a positive force around Davis Square/Lexington Park, and the brothers tend to be the organizers. The eldest is serving in Iraq(!), but participates by email and apparently comes to meetings when he's on leave.
