The 'New Horizon' gift shop, at 407 Highland Ave., is closed. It now has newspaper covering the windows and door.
The jeweler next door is probably still in business, but it doesn't have much merchandise on display.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone walk into or out of either store.

I've gone to the jeweler's twice (to get a watch fixed), and one of those times I had to wait for him to finish with another customer.

why is elm so much more favored than highland?

Because too much of the first-floor real estate on Highland is occupied by banks (4 of them), insurance agents, tax accountants, and other things that don't generate foot traffic.

Maybe the Someday Cafe could open there -that should bring a bit of life back into Highland!

I've suggested it to them, we'll see. Right now I think they have their eyes on the former hair salon next to Antonia's, on the plaza.
