I need a recomendation for a good, cheap mechanic in the Somerville/Cambridge area for American make cars.

I gotta recommend Hillside Auto Repair in Somerville right where Cedar intersects Broadway.

They fixed my car for half the price of the dealer and everyone in the waiting room was happy and friendly with the mechanics. I took that to be a good sign. (My car's a Ford).

Second for Hillside. The guy at the desk is easy to talk to and honest about what they need to do (vs. what they otherwise would want to do in order to make more money and gouge you in the process). They do good work on domestic and foreign.

Never tried Hillside, but my experiences with Streetwise have all been positive. They are friendly, and honest (to the best of my ability to tell).
