Figs?

Inspired by the concord grapes post a while back... Does anyone know where I might find some fresh figs? I saw one small tray of them in the Star Market in Porter a week or two ago, but sadly they were all far past their prime. I admit, I haven't done much searching... But if anyone has had a fig-sighting, I'd love to hear about it! Thanks.

I've seen them at Farmer's Bounty in years past, but not yet this year.
Formaggio Kitchen, in huron village, had them last week (haven't been this week to re-confirm).
Pemberton Farms also had them in the last week or two, and may still (again, I can't confirm this week's availability).

I know this sounds a little crazy, but Costco normally has them around this time of year and at a pretty reasonable price. The catch, of course, is that you buy them in bulk, so you really really gotta love figs... but they re really really fresh and good.

You might also try calling Lambert's, out in Watertown. They seem to have all sorts of odd things year round.

The little fruit stands like the one in Harvard Square T station as well as ones in Downtown Crossing in Boston always seem to have them. But I have VERY rarely found figs anywhere around here that are truly fresh. Whole Paycheck (Whole Foods) might have 'em, but you'll pay for 'em.

The Armenian markets in Watertown on Mt. Auburn sometimes have fresh figs, and fresh dates, too. Plus, they have lots of other yummy things, like lamejuns, haloumi cheese, and fresh baklava.

Farmer's Bounty has had them up next to the register this year. they're $1 a piece though :/

Russo's in Watertown has them, as does Trader Joe's.

I saw some in a sidewalk stand right in Downtown Crossing—near Macy's, I think? There's a huge fruit stand near Bath & Body Works.

I just saw those in the Harvard T station this evening and thought of buying some but they didn't look all that fresh.

i was there saturday and there were many, many, many tents with figs available. i didn't stop to check on the quality, though. i also saw some at whole foods near central sq on prospect st, i'm sure those were quite tasty.
good luck!

Russo a & Sons on Pleasant St in Watertown has a very wide variety of produce. They're kind of like Whole Foods, without the over-priced tags. It's a ways from Davis, but if you have a vehicle, it's totally worth visiting.
