I'm in semi-desperate need of new brake pads on my car so I can pass inspection next month, and I was wondering if anyone has a place to recommend around here.

I've heard a few horror stories about where *not* to take it, but haven't heard any ideas yet on who'd be reputable enough to do decent work without ripping me off. I'd rather do it at a local shop than a Midas or national chain...

Thanks!

The guys at CarTalk have a web site for finding good mechanics -- http://www.cartalk.com/content/mechx/.

he was good when he was down in Dedham.

If it's a Honda or Acura, either Hondar House in Cambridge or Hondaa King in Brighton.

I'm going to revise my earlier statement and say that Hondaa King is way better than Hondar House. Scott (the Hondaa King guy) is entirely dedicated to solving problems and fixing stuff in an elegant way, and it seems like at Hondar House they're more interested in e.g. replacing stuff that could potentially be fixed.
