Mr. Crepe?

Can someone who is more informed than I help me understand what is preventing Mr. Crepe from being open for business yet? I know people don't love that the Someday closed, but having no open business there is worse than someone you don't like, right? I've been expecting them to be open since mid-September.

Nothing's preventing them. It just takes time to gut and rebuild a commercial storefront.

Also, I don't think it's that anyone dislikes Mr. Crepe, people were pretty sad when they closed last year (2 years ago?). It was just a crappy landlord situation that shutdown Someday.

It just takes time to entirely gut and redo the inside of the space. They're knocking down walls and stuff, as I understand it.

*grin* I was wondering the same thing. I've missed Mr. Crepe!

From what I understand, the owner of the Someday just failed to sign the lease, and as a result, the space was leased to Mr. Crepe.

No worse than the demolition crater next door...

When Mr. Crepe made his presentation at one of the meetings, he said he was aiming for a November 1 opening date. He'll miss that, but hopefully not by too much.

There's a much longer story about it. Maybe some of those discussions are tagged in the memories here?

Look at posts tagged as 'coffee houses'. Go back as far as June 26. I don't think it's productive to rehash the whole discussion here again.

There's not really a whole lot to discuss. One party claims that he needed someone on the lease, the other notes that previous renewals had been initiated by the landlord, but acknowledges that that he did not initiate renewal of the lease when he was requires to, and that the owner stuck to the letter of the law (http://community.livejournal.com/davis_square/562783.html?thread=4109919#t4109919).

hopes to open in December

I walked into the storefront today and asked the people working there when they expect to open. One of them said "some time in December, but not December 1st". I told him I'd post that here, and he was fine with that.

It seems like whenever there is demo or gutting involved, these projects always take ~6 months longer than they initially predict.
