Where in this area can I purchase whitefish salad? Not the cheap shit found at the supermarket, but the handmade stuff that most Jewish-style delicatessens have. Should sell for ~$7/lb. Suggestions?

I have had my eye out for this for a while. Your best bet is to travel to Brookline and go to an honest to god kosher deli. I once found some at the Whole Foods near Symphony back when I lived downtown, but that was right after passover and it was really overpriced.

Actually, there's only one kosher deli in Brookline (Rubin's), and it isn't good.

What you want to do is go to Michael's Deli in Brookline (not kosher), and load up there. Best corned beef and pastrami available in the area, decent knish, half-sour pickles, etc.

The Butcherie (http://www.butcherie.com/) in Brookline should carry this. I know you said "around here", but I couldn't think of any place that fits that description.

Oh yeah, even though it's not really a deli, it does have a good deli counter. I haven't had whitefish salad there, but the gefilte fish is actually good. And the eggplant-soaked-in-oil dish is delicious (although you have to add your own salt). And their roast beef is perfectly rare and tasty.

You're making me hungry. I know not everyone loves the stuff, but they make a decent chopped liver, too.

I've never tried it, and I don't know for sure, but I do know that there's a place called "Jerusalem Cafe" in Central, right on Mass Ave. They might have it.

Nah, Jerusalem Cafe is middle-eastern stuff exclusively, not the eastern europe stuff.

I plugged Jewish deli Boston into Google and got this page:

the s&s restaurant has excellent whitefish in a slab on a bagel; worth asking if they have whitefish salad? sorry not to be more precise....but i know they also have a deli counter; probably the worst case is you could acquire good ingredients there and blend at home.

Yes, this is where I get whitefish salad, and I like it a lot.

It's almost enough to make me wish I still lived in Coolidge Corner, the Davis Square of Brookline :)

By the way eclecticavatar, this may be strange, but I have the same Yahoo! avatar as you ... hair, glasses, white girl, etc. Except mine is standing in front of a stadium, because I use it for my fantasy football league.

Also I promise I'm not a stalker.

And finally, I llllooovvvveee S&S. Anyone who sells Dr. Brown's Cel-Ray soda and knockwurst is A-OK by me!
