On Saturday, we were in a local place for brunch and the guy at the table next to us spent most of his time at the table blowing his nose. No big deal, not nice to listen to while eating but he was doing it into the purple cloth napkins!

Does anyone think this is repulsive and rude?

Perhaps he ran out of kleenex. A cloth napkin is better than a sleeve, or the tablecloth. Also, I would expect that health codes require that cloth napkins be laundered after every use.

I think it is gross and rude.

Go to the restroom and get some toilet paper, ask for a disposable napkin, ask others for kleenex. Use your own sleeve if you have to, but not something someone else will be using, regardless of how they wash their napkins.

No one should blow their nose into a restaurant's cloth napkin. An employee has to touch it when it's time to bus the table. Aside from the possibility of the employee catching the cold, mucous is not among the items a server should be expected to clean up.

It's not a big deal. It all gets washed and servers should be washing their hands. Where else is he going to blow it if he's leaking?

Blowing your nose at the table isn't rude; it's an unfortunate side effect of having a cold. If I'm terribly snotty, I'll sometimes excuse myself, but sometimes you just can't help it. Using a cloth napkin owned by the restaurant is rude.

Blowing your nose shouldn't be done in a restaurant eating area. It's gross to have to listen to that while eating. Just think of what's really going on when you blow your nose. He should have gone to the bathroom. Inside a restaurant napkin is even worse.

Agreed in part, but really, if you're blowing your nose constantly through a meal, you should've stayed home.
