Having started in to scheming about how many times to eat there this weekend, including tonight, before getting to the comments, I have only one thing to say: TEASE!
I barely remember Mr. Crepe in its former location. Does it have a cafe vibe to it where people can hang out, sip something warm and watch the world go by? Or is it more of a restaurant?
That's uncalled for. Mr. Crepe will be serving coffee and will have a coffee bar. I think what you'll miss is hanging out for hours over a single cup, non?!
While everyone is certainly entitled to an opinion, I hope this thread does not turn into a hate/love thing about Mr. Crepe or the late Someday Cafe... it will not help Mr. Crepe, it will not help the people trying to reopen the Someday elsewhere, and wishing any business to fail will not help Davis Square.
Like any place, those who like it will go, those who do not like it will not go.
Mr. Crepe will open tomorrow (Saturday) at 9 am. They will have coffee and waffles, but not crepes yet. They hope to have crepes by the middle of next week.
Once they get going, their hours wlil be 7 am to 11 pm; midnight on weekend nights.
I don't. I'd like them to succeed, and for Someday to reopen and succeed as well. The market for cafes in Davis seems to continually expand; there's room for everyone.
Rao's was down the street from me when I was in college in Amherst, and I (at one point) knew the head roaster personally. They put out some very good coffee, and it's amazing to see it here in Davis.
If Mr. Crepe makes a good cup, Diesel may have a contender for the best coffee in the square.
The cashier in there today told me they were so busy with crepe sales last night that they closed early - they apparently hadn't intended to sell that many crepes the first day and ended up selling quite a bit.
Looks like they are doing well with a 'quiet opening', i.e., no signs/ads.

My respectful two cents...

They will serve Rao's Coffee.
They will have wireless internet "along the window side", but I don't know if it will be free or paid.
Prices are on a blackboard. There are no sofas, but there are lots of tables for four.
The two people inside sorta winced when I said it, but in some ways it will be just like its predecessor.
