Hi. I'm looking to adopt a kitten or young cat. I live in the Davis Square area, but will travel if neccessary. If you know anyone who's looking to get rid of their kitty or cat, please e-mail me at Megan_Curtis@emerson.edu. I'm using my house-mate's username to leave this post, so please don't response on LJ, just e-mail me. Thanks so much!

I highly recommend the Animal Rescue League down in the South End! I got a kitten there in July, and she's been great. They have good, affordable vets there as well. Kittens come fixed, first round of all their shots, plus a bag of food and cardboard carrier (plastic ones available for a little extra), all for about $100. Adult cats cost a little bit less to adopt, I believe. The people there are great, even if the facility is a little city-pound-esque depressing.

Also, take a peek at petfinder.com ... not good for finding kittens really, but if you're looking for an adult, all the local shelters seem to list their cats there.

Best of luck in your search!

petfinder.com is actually find for looking for kittens. I got my two lovely kittens from petfinder.com. Kittens are just a little seasonal.

That's where we got our splendid little tabby. It cost about $70 to adopt her (she was a year old at the time), but it was 7 years ago, so they may have changed rates. The $70 also covered some post-shelter vet care (like many shelter animals she had picked up some infections and needed some antibiotics for a week).

Right! Mags had a bit of an upper respiratory infection when I got her home (common to shelters), and the vet care for treating that was free. Forgot to mention that!

The Animal Rescue League and the MSPCA both have great kitties (I got my two from there). If you don't find one directly from an owner, these guys are reliable!

They actually call the landlord and ask them direclty for permission. When I got my cat at the Animal Rescue League, I wasn't 21 and all they did was call our landlady.

Give it a try. It's the safest and most economical way to get a kitten or cat who's spayed/neutered, all shots and healthy!

Saint Meow's shelter brings kitties to be adopted to Animal Planet (2348 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, v. close to Davis Square) on Saturdays.

And responding on LJ makes information available to the community, not just yourself.
