With the understanding that davis_square is hardly a car-oriented community... where is the best place in the area to get a good, cheap oil change? I'm willing to go up 16 towards Everett in addition to anywhere slightly closer to home. Bonus points if they're open on Sunday - I'd love to have this done today if I can, or at least avoid calling my mechanic for an appointment, as that will probably mean taking some time off of work.

oil change

There's one of those drive-in 10-minute oil change places on Mass Ave between Davis Sq. and Rt. 16. It's a little annoying because they always try to talk you into getting more than just an oil change, but, on the other hand, you can come back between oil changes and they will check your tire pressure, top off fluids, wash your windshield, and things like that, which used to be done routinely at gas stations.

Ideal Engine in Davis Square is a great place with nice people. If you ride the Red Line, you can drop off your car and take the train to work.

on route 16, at the 28 intersection in the same parking lot as kappy's in medford there's a cheap-ass place. i think it might be a meineke, but i can't remember. i *think*, but can't be 100% sure, that their oil change is $17.99 and they definetly have a Lady's Night oil change for 11.99 on wednesdays.

I just got mine done at the place on Summer St at School St. $25. Not well-informed enough to comment on quality, but they were quick.

Valvoline on Mass Ave. (between Porter and Alewife) or in Union Square is pretty good, although not as cheap as some of the recommendations here. Not open on Sunday, but very convenient any other day and no appointments necessary.

Seconded. Just went there a few weeks ago, and they were quite good and quick. Just remember to bring something to read in the car!
