what's up with all the 'THANK YOU!' stickers (many complete with star) that i've seen pasted randomly around inanimate objects in davis?

it's graffiti art that is supposed to instill happiness in people, but it always makes me mad when i see it.

they're all over the city (boston too), not just in davis.

but yeah. "street art," "graffiti," what have you.

That's interesting, why? I sometimes have a similar reaction to this type of thing, although this particular gesture didn't set me off.

because "thank you" is a really strange choice of words. what does this person have to be thankful to me for? nothing.

i don't know, i can't explain it. it's just annoying.

perhaps s/he is thanking you for your critique?

This was asked here a month ago, though without any clear answer.

Heh. Me too. To me, it's just littering. It doesn't provide any beauty or provoke any deep thoughts in me. I just see it as someone doing something because they want people to notice it. If they were doing things that made me look at the objects they were altering in a new way, or look at something else in a new way, or if they were saying things that made me think, or if they were aesthetically pleasing, I'd enjoy it. But the "thank you" stickers don't do any of that.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What you make of these gestures is what you want to see.

Yeah, that's kinda my point. My own personal reaction to them is that I simply don't perceive any beauty there. Dunno it's so much about what you WANT to see, because I don't generally think any emotional or aesthetic responses are voluntary, but it is quite definitely a personal thing.
