whoops, sugar and spice is what i meant - excellent thai curry. spice and rice is another tasty place in inman square if you ever get out that way, though!
Sugar and Spice in Porter is terrific, and Tip Top Thai in Teele Square is decent. Don't know anything about Benjapon's except the consensus I've heard is "fast, and kind of greasy. but fast."
I have some emotional block that keeps me from going in there - although I think it's less an emotional block than it is the pics of the food on the windows. They just smack of unappetizing and greazy - not really what I'm looking for when I want Thai.
i actually dislike BOTH Benjapon and Sugar and Spice (but mostly because I don't think their meat is very good) - I'd recommend making the trek to Tamarind House in Porter. Totally worth the walk.
I had a not-so-good masaman at Sugar and Spice (it was all oily peanuty) and totally recommend Lemon Thai (more food less money). Check out reviews on yelp.com.
East Asia makes some nice curries, and last I heard, they also made their own tofu. I definitely recommend them, though preferably for take-out because it's a bit of a hole in the wall (unless you're looking for that).
For a nice sit-down, I'll chime in on the Sugar&Spice/Spice&Rice bandwagon. Good stuff.
Thirded; I love Tamarind House (though my favorite is still Brown Sugar Cafe in the Fenway). The dishes I've had at Sugar and Spice taste rather bland, but it's an okay "compromise" place.
Really? That's terrible! I've only ordered from them twice, but if you're getting sick from them, I'll definitely rethink that! Do you have other recommendations?
I definitely second East Asia! Their tofu is the best (they make it themselves) and they make 4 or 5 different kinds of curries with mixed veggies and tofu, and good noodles and other tofu dishes. The owners are really nice too.
