Ticket for sweeping at 12:23am??

I thought street sweeping was only enforced between 8am and noon! I was at a bar on Somerville Ave last night, and when I went out to get my car, I had a $50 ticket for street sweeping. It says "odd side." What the hell???

On high traffic streets, they do the street sweeping at night, so it doesn't disrupt traffic as much. You need to read the signs (if you can find them).

What he said. The days and times on the signs are different depending on where you are. But if the sign doesn't say that, then you can successfully appeal the ticket.

I know the sweeping time on Broadway starts at midnight. 12-4 or 12-6, I think.

From my meager personally-viewed evidence, most "major" streets are like that, and the residential areas are 8-noon.

As nomacmac said, it's always best to check the signs where you happen to be parking. You may find you're in a place that's different than you're used to.

man, once i got towed for not looking. (it was a no parking during certain hours street.) since then, i've been extra vigilant. you gotta be careful out there, man!

I just didn't even think to look for street cleaning signs since I wasn't going to be parking there overnight. I was just at a bar! Serves me right for going out on a weeknight, I guess....

This isn't anything new. I remember seeing such signs on Beacon Street 20 years ago.

And they're still there today! Though the only ticket any of my friends have gotten on Beacon is for being in the same parking space more than 48 hours.
