Posted to Davis Square, because I've never heard of any super bun-knowledgeable vets in Somerville. Presumably other folks in the area have to transport their bunnies outside Somerville lines as well.

Has anybody taken their rabbit to VCA Everett? Or perhaps folks have experiences taking other exotics there?

I usually take my rabbit to VCA Wakefield, but it is indeed a bit of a haul from Somerville in rush hour traffic. I've continued to go there because the staff are experts on bunnies and treat Thistle with the upmost care. And the vets have in the past allowed me some latitude in decision making re x-rays adn other procedures due to financial constraints, and bring her back if the condition worsens. In other words, I'm firmly convinced that VCA Wakefield isn't trying to rip me off and they have the best interests of my rabbit in mind.

Thistle needs to go to the vet because one of her front teeth broke off last week and I'm rather sure that she needs to have all the incisors ground down to prevent a nasty maloccusion situation. I'm hesitant to take her to a vet not endorsed by the House Rabbit Network, but then again, I took my last bunny to about 5 other docs on the list when she was ailing, and felt dissatisfied with all of them. This includes the vet facilities at the SPCA. (They are great with emergencies, but not so hot when an exotic needs routine care.) And VCA Everett does have vets who treat exotics on staff.

Mostly, it is very much frowned upon at my job to not be present 9 - 5:30, and I'd like to find a vet that can care for Thistle without me having to drive up to the North Shore.

You may want to call Porter Square Vet (in Davis Square). Dr. Werlin is not an exotics vet but she does see rabbits (and other small mammals) as well as cats and dogs. She might be a good resource for the moments when you can't get to a specialist. I'd ask the secretary to check with her and find out if she's comfortable performing dental surgery (which it sounds like your bunny might need) on a rabbit.

Angell Memorial in JP has a great exotics department.

I take my bunny, Felix, to Porter Square Vet. (actually in Davis Square, on Summer Street). I had him neutered there, and they called me to let me know how he was doing, the staff is very friendly, and I left feeling good about leaving him in their care.

Good luck!

I've been told by those who know (people who foster rabbits) that there is a good rabbit vet in Littleton. But that's a bit of a hike, and I don't think you would be able to get there without missing work (although perhaps they have evening hours). We have a rabbit, but she hasn't needed any vet care yet, so I'm interested if you do find a good vet who is nearby.

That's too bad you didn't have a good experience at the SPCAs...
I took my rabbits to Angell Memorial, Drs. Orcutt and Ritzmann, after our vet at Belmont Animal Hopstital developed a rabbit allergy. I was pleased with the care that these two doctors gave. It is very expensive, but Angell has the technology that Belmont Animal Hospital does not have, which my buns needed when they developed chronic condition. [My bunnies lived to be 10 years old; sadly, one had to be euthanized :-( ]
