Has there been any more talk about setting up a townwatch group for Davis? There was talk about having another meeting June 4, but I havent heard any more about it.
that’s the last i heard, as well. i’m planning on attending, even though based on the last meeting it sounded like the group would only be monitoring an area of a few streets near Davis.
however, i urge as many people as possible to show up; even if you don’t live on one of the streets in question (i don’t), i figure it’s good to learn how to set up a neighborhood watch so that we can consider setting up watches in our own areas.
Yup, it will be Monday from 6:15-7:30 in Johnny D's. It is targeted at the North-West Davis area (the "Davis Triangle", perhaps?) with people mostly from Wallace/Irving/Chandler, but if successful people from other sections of Davis may be interested in setting up something similar. By the way, all of those streets have mailing lists for their residents. This is a great way for people to keep in-touch with things more specific to their particular streets.
Thalia Tringo just sent out this reminder mail: The second meeting of our neighborhood crime watch group will be on Monday, June 4th from 6:15-7:30 at Johnny D's. Carla DeLellis of Johnny D's has graciously offered to let us meet there, but we need to make a firm commitment to leave at 7:30.
Our goal at this meeting is to present information on the new type of watch group the City endorses so that we can form such a group. It is important to understand the level of involvement we need to have to have a successful group.
I am curious to know if anyone's auto insurance rates have gone up since the rash of car break-ins a few weeks ago. This type of crime isn't just annoying, it's expensive as well.
If anyone has any ideas about how we can better police our own streets - we know the Somerville Police are doing their best, but their resources are stretched - please bring them. I was thinking we might combine efforts to improve our health and keep our streets safe if a group of us met for walks around the 'hood at 10 PM or later. I realize this isn't a great time for most people, but I'm up very late and will go for a walk if I have company. I know I see people walking dogs at that hour, so maybe we can all walk together and be a presence. Just an idea.
