My 1999 Subaru crapped out on me today. Instead of starting, it makes a loud clicking noise. Can anyone recommend a decent "won't-rip-you-off and won't-do-a-shit-job" mechanic close to the Union/Davis Sq area? Many thanks in advance!

It sounds like the battery may have died. Do your headlights or radio work?

I generally go to Carlos at Aris Auto in Porter Sq (take Somerville from Porter, its on your left where Elm and Somerville meet).

I would agree. Sadly, I don't know anyone that I would recommend in the area.

I'm a huge fan of Union Square Gulf (on Washington Street, right before the turn you take to get to Somerville Ave).

In the past, Frank at Hondar House has told me that no, really, they do work on other brands.

If that's the case, I'd totally go there, as I'm planning on buying another Honda someday so that I don't have to change garages. (Prospect St. (St? Ave?) about 5 blocks outside Central)

They're all the way out in Acton, on the Concord border, but I love Village Subaru.

Alternately, I was quite happy with Koko at Foreign and Domestic Auto in Medford

2nd Aris Auto. They're quick and straightforward.

Mike's Automotive, at 1 Union Square, has received numerous recommendations before. I've used them myself, and back the suggestion. 617-623-1009.

Sounds like the starter. Or ignition coil? That's what mine was with similar symptoms (toyota).

Anyway my default is Ari's, as mentioned above, though i also go to Teele Square Auto. I just throw my bike in the trunk and ride it home. The mechanic's name is Eli and he's been good to me twice now. The mechanic at Ari is probably just as good but he isn't as chatty as Eli, so i never got his name.

Hey [livejournal.com profile] viellen, I know this is an old post, but as of this morning my 1998 Subaru is doing the exact same thing that you described in this post. So I was wondering what turned out to be the issue w/your car, and where you took it and whether the problem was resolved to your satisfaction, etc...? thanks!!

Hi,

I am looking to get work done on my car and saw your referral for Mike's. If you email me your name, I can fill in a certificate that gets me a free oil change and gets you a $25 gift certificate. Send info to darkblacksky at yahoo dot com..
