In my half-awakened state, I clicked on the Davis Square page this morning and was like, "Huh? I must have the wrong page." But no! Behold a new, clean, and more useful page! Great job to Pheromone who I assume made the changes. It looks really great.

It is nice - love the links, love the tags. My only criticism is that the blue sidebar font on paler blue is a bit hard to read; could we increase that contrast a wee bit?

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] pheromone! The one thing I'd change is the white type on light grey background (2 comments | Leave a comment). To my eyes, there is insufficient contrast which makes it hard to read.

And yeah, I'd darken the blue font a bit, too.

You know you are getting old when you request more sharply contrasting fonts, Ron...

Nice! I particularly like the icon of the Splat instead of the map that was there before.

Thanks! Yeah, that's what I did when I should have been sleeping. :]

Comments welcome. I also made a new userpic that I felt worked better as a default, but again, if somebody has something better, that's great, too.

Sure. The color scheme is one of the pre-built sets, so assuming people are generally okay with the basics, tweaking of colors can begin. I agree on some of the contrast issues, too.

Yes, love the userpic. Thank you.

Thank you! I'd forgotten that was on my mental to-do list until the swirlies were gone and my brain was able to focus properly. :)

As luck would have it, I had the basic image because I used it a few years ago as the basis of the second Art Café menu, though it did take me some time to locate it amongst the archives.

(It would definitely be possible to make a cleaner/sharper version of same, but the original was a big fuzzy and I'm not a graphics wiz by any stretch.)

You're welcome!

It honestly wasn't a huge amount of work. I didn't design the style -- I just chose which one to use and tweaked a few things here and there.

But that reminds me: we should get ourselves a new "subtitle" now that it's up there so prominently. Suggestions, folks?

Very nice layout. 1000% percent better than the late-1990s era design we had before. Of course, I read everything in an RSS feed so I had to visit the page to notice the changes.

As for slogans... I don't have anything at the moment. "Welcome to Camberville"?

Yes!!!

Or maybe:

Davis Square: specializing in burritos, second-hand retail, and honking. Since ... about 2001 or so.

I actually like "Paris of the 90s!" as a default.

Or what was the slogan on the T-shirts that the Someday used to all? "All-American Town 1970"?

When I look at the "Honk to Impeach!" post on the davis_square.livejournal.com page, the Tags: aren't at the bottom of the post, but instead somewhere in the middle. Very strange.

(I also suggest adding a blank line between the end of the post and the list of Tags.)

Geek!

Which is appropriate, because [livejournal.com profile] pheromone's "I'm a geek!" story from more than a decade ago is still one of the best ones I've ever heard: She was in class, taking notes using pencil and paper, and she happened to wonder what day of the week a certain date would be, so she wrote down "cal" with her pencil and then stared at the page wondering why a matrix of dates arranged by weeks didn't show up.
