Many, many items on the curb of our old place at 3 Fairlee Street, near the intersection of Highland and Cherry Street in Somerville. Most items are in fair to good condition--nothing is like new, but it's free, free, free. Here's the list. Please be respectful and quiet, leaving the pile neat, including the mountain of recycling we left behind. Trash collection is early tomorrow, so come tonight and grab what you need.
-Collapsed boxes
-Old futon (rolled and secured with a bungee cord for easy transport)
-Old futon frame
-Bicycle pump
-Air mattress and pump
-Metal shelf stand for bathroom
-Large oriental rug
-Small zebra rug
-Low horizontal bureau (for under a window)
-Large plastic wagon to haul items away (this is the only item that is under trash bags to the far left if you are facing the house)
-4 lamps
-3 space heaters
-Large crock pot
-Books
-Beanie babies

To notify others who might be interested please reply if you take any of the items, but I will not be up to answer questions about any of them:  it's been a very long day. This notice was also published on Craig's List.

Sigh. Cherry and Highland...the Goodwill really isn't at all far from you, and yet you leave it on the curb.

I never understand people.

What I never understand is why you repeatedly fail to grasp that goodwill is for people with cars.

Instead of lecturing every time, you could volunteer to help carry that futon mattress and frame down to the goodwill store.

I second your comment. Besides, my house is almost entirely outfitted with nice second-hand things that I got from the curb, so I like to give back to the free pool of curb goods when I have something I don't need.

Maybe you should try, eh?

Same here! I can't even remotely afford new furniture, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will come across some neighbors who are tossing some awesome stuff on Friday or sooner.

I <3 my beat-up curb stuffs and I know that many others in Boston do too, from the very-poor to the fairly-poor.

that's rather rude. If she can give things away this way successfully, why not?

Actually, Goodwill won't take furniture. (But I don't think the fellow was about to volunteer to help carry stuff, anyway, so it's a moot point.)

Is that permanently, or just right now?

I don't know. They've got a big sign up saying "no furniture" right now. Also, their website (http://www.goodwillmass.org/donation_what.html) has a detailed list of what they will and won't take, and futons and futon frames are on the "no" list. So maybe at other times they'll take some furniture, but not futons.

Under the new management, the Good Will no longer accepts furniture. One employee said she didn't understand why because furniture always sold well in the past. It seems the focus now is mostly on clothes and smaller items.

I think it has something to do with the high cost of disposal of all the things they were getting that *can't* be sold. That's the impression I get from the website, anyway.

I assumed they didn't want furniture because of a bedbug problem.

I have a couch that I want to get rid of. It's a sleeper sofa, love seat size, folds out to double bed. Got it from IKEA ~10 years ago. It has some flaws, but is functional. If you can pick it up, it's yours. I live in Winter Hill. Any interest?

OH huge amount of interest, but I live all the way over on Mass Ave with no car. Argh! Thank you for the offer though.

Well, we are not going anywhere, so if you can arrange a way to get it, it's yours - but you may want to come see it first, or at least hear about it.

Email me at mderidd at gmail dot com if you are still interested and think there is a chance you will be able to come get it.
