sorry to make another in what i'm sure is a long line of hair-related posts, but i checked the tags and couldn't find the answer to my question. i'm looking for a hair stylist who will give me a funky cut without making backhanded remarks about my DIY dye job or my recent "experiment" into cutting my own bangs. does anyone have any suggestions for someone non-pretentious in the area? so far i'm looking at salon cu and salonika.

I went to Salon Cu based on recommendations here, and found them to be totally unpretentious and down-to-earth while being style-conscious and very good at what they do. I had Umberto, and when he recommended I use product in my hair to give it more body, I expected the usual sales pitch of a $40 bottle of stuff from their "in-house brand". Instead, he said "just use hand lotion, works great. Any kind is fine, get the cheap stuff. Conditions great, makes your hair shiny."

I would like to register that I had a VERY negative Salonika experience, wherein the woman cutting my hair spent the entire time talking about her boyfriend and quitting smoking, cut her own hand and drew blood, and, while leading me to believe that she understood what I was asking for gave me this extraordinarily bad heavily layered haircut that makes me look like a thundercat if I don't blowdry and style and a newscaster if I do. I went to get it fixed by someone a friend recommended me to and she said that she could make it look *neater* but not really *better* for about 2 months, but at least the bangs I now have (unasked for) are even.
