automatic snow emergency alert notification

The city has instituted a new notification system for snow emergencies. You can now get them via email. Go onto the city website http://www.ci.somerville.ma.us/ and follow the 'what's new' link to sign up. I went in and entered both my email and my cell SMS address. And if folks can also post a message here if one is declared, that would be really cool as well.

If davis_square was a paid account, then the owner could follow these directions (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=187), create a PIN, and then sign up davis_square+PIN@post.livejournal.com to the snow emergency email list (though it might be tricky if it requires address confirmation to sign up).

When they sent out a snow emergency email, it'd automatically be posted to the community.

or

i'd suggest an automagic posting bot/mail-gateway, but the moderator/creator disabled anonymous posting, and that makes it far trickier.
