The city has instituted a new notification system for snow emergencies. You can now get them via email. Go onto the city website http://www.ci.somerville.ma.us/ and follow the 'what's new' link to sign up. I went in and entered both my email and my cell SMS address. And if folks can also post a message here if one is declared, that would be really cool as well.

i'd suggest an automagic posting bot/mail-gateway, but the moderator/creator disabled anonymous posting, and that makes it far trickier.
