there was a large brown (chow?) in the middle of the intersection right in downtown davis this morning. if anyone is missing a chow, someone called the cops/animal control to get the dog out of the intersection safely. We tried to call him out and walk him out but he wasn't very responsive and was pretty skiddish. Hope he finds his way home safely!

how large are we talking? I know that in Medford, there's a Scandinavian woman who we always see walking a big lion-faced dog around, who likes to wait for the bus.

I think I encountered the same dog standing the middle of Lexington St. near Lexington Park at around 7:15. I wonder if he's lost and wandering?

OMG, is it Koji? Koji is the large russet chow who lives at the intersection of Orchard and Chester. He's really friendly, and I can't see him running away, but if he does, he can always be lured with a marrowbone from Redbones (would probably work on any other dog, too). I hope this dog finds his way home soon.

Hell, I could probably be lured with that. Mmmm, redbones.

Ah, no, different dog. Knee height isn't what I'd call large. Toby, the dog I'm thinking of, is waist-height-ish.

Yeah, I walk by that dog (didn't know his name!) all the time in his yard. He was my first thought when I saw this post. Do you know the owner, or if the dog has a tag with contact info? I have to walk by there later this afternoon and while I don't know the woman who lives there personally, I've seen her and the dog many times walking by and would be willing to go ring the bell or leave a note to let her know about this, if she wouldn't have already been notified another way.

It just always breaks my heart to hear about missing pets. :(

Neighbor to neighbor is best!

I totally support ringing the bell and alerting your neighbor. We had to do that in my neighborhood when a kitty was missing and had taken up residence at a house up the street. Got to know 2 new neighbors that way. And if it's not the neighbor's dog they'll appreciate your looking out for them. It's a win/win.

Update on Koji - he was lounging in his front yard when I walked by around 3pm. So either he's been returned home safely or it was another dog on the loose!

The chow was reunited with his owner. He actually managed to make it all the way from the 400 block of Broadway to Davis Sq. His brother only got as far as Benton Rd. The both escaped from the owner's yard at about 3am this morning.
