My friend was hit by a truck this morning. That is all we really know right now, as her partner is at the hospital and got there after she went to the Operating Room. I don't know if this was the same incident, though the timing sounds about right. If anyone has any details on what actually happened, please contact me directly and let me know.
I wish the best of luck and health to your friend and her other friends and family. I'm so sorry to hear about this situation and that one, same instances or different.
Thank you. I still don't have many details, but since she was in surgery until almost 10pm tonight, I think it's probably safe to assume that she was the one involved in this accident.
as someone who has avoided an innumerable amount of bike/car accidents since moving to the Boston area, i'd like to extend "please be careful when you're riding" to include "please be careful when you're driving" as well.
Yes, of course, I should have just said "be careful" in general. As a commuting cyclist my first instinct was to warn cyclists to be careful first - personally I find it important to never rely on other people to be careful, and to constantly expect every driver to be the worst, expect that they never see cyclists. Anyhow, thank you for pointing that out.

I agree! Cars cannot be trusted to not kill all the pedestrians and cyclists around them! I have a short commute but its has proven to be almost deadly too many times.
I drove by at 9:20 this morning. There were several police, and the area was taped off. I saw the bike lock laying on the sidewalk, the bike under the truck in the bus area about 40 ft away. I sure hope they were wearing a helmet, and were thrown from the bike and not dragged under the truck. I've been thinking of the biker all day...I hope he/she is OK.
I saw a gasoline tanker turning around through there last night, and thought "That's not terribly safe; there's a reason it's posted Do Not Enter." Here's to hoping the T police enforces that a little better.
We're still not 100% certain that my friend was the bicyclist in this accident, as not even the hospital knows anything beyond "she was hit by a truck", though everything seems to add up and we're 95% this was the one. Right now we're more focused on her well-being and not the incident itself, but if anyone has any info (a friend who may have witnessed, or even shown up just after the fact) please drop me a note. I just got home from the hospital a little while ago. She is beaten pretty badly with multiple broken bones, however we're pretty sure that she didn't receive any serious head trauma or injury to internal organs. She's on a respirator and cannot talk, but she is coherent and was able to write out a few words with her fingertip on my hand. If things go well, they may be able to remove the respirator tomorrow and she'll be able to talk. I think that the biggest concern right now is from secondary infection or illness resulting from the injuries sustained. The next 72 hours are the most important.
I'd like to thank everyone for your well-wishes and concern. While I just moved to Central Sq from Davis Sq last week, this community is by far the best and most caring that I've ever run across, and I will always consider this community to be home. :)
