Anyone know the nearest place to go rollerskating, indoors? I would prefer T subway or bus accessible, but I could get a ZipCar if needed.

Thanks!

Chez Vous (http://www.chezvousskate.com/) is the only one in the area (to the best of my knowledge). It's in Dorchester, pretty far, and a little hard to spot if you don't know where it is already. But I've always had a ton of fun when I've gone, which is usually for special events. People get dressed up in all kinds of crazy costumes.

Chez Vous always seems to be on the financial brink of closing, but somehow survives. Never been there myself (yet).

For that matter, why was a movie called Xanadu not a musical remake of Citizen Kane ?

I have always wondered that myself...

There's a place in Saugus. It's on Rt. 1.

Where else would a 60s throwback activity center be? Is it next to the mini-golf place with the dinosaur?

Wouldn't that be a great name for an establishment? "Sixties Throwback Activity Center"? Even has a nice acronym, STAC.

I couldn't find the roller rink in Norwood I remember from my childhood online, but I did stumble across this one in Saugus: http://www.roller-world.com/

Roll-land no longer exists, it is now a WOW (workout World)

I grew up in Norwood myself and I was quite sad to see it close.

When I lived in Columbus, Ohio, our local roller rink had the Best Name Evah: "United Skates of America". I think it's still there, too.

We had United Skates in Brooklyn, too. I went to many a grade-school birthday party there.

The Boston Derby Dames (http://www.bostonderbydames.com) primarily use Roller World in Saugus for tryouts and occasional meet-ups. Some of the girls have been over to Chez-Vous, though I know little about the rink itself.

Join the Derby Dames and you can skate several times a week at various venues while training, and then even more at the Shriner's Auditorium for bouts! ;)
