does anyone know of a walk-in clinic [not planned parenthood, like, if you have an ear infection or something random] in the somerville/cambridge area?

the clinic in the plaza bordered by starbucks & buck-a-book alleges to have a free clinic a couple days a week. there's a sign in the window that says which days/times (i think one is wednesday but i can't remember which times).

That's Davis Square Family Practice. My regular doctor is there, and he's good. They're usually a conventional doctor's office that charges fees or takes payments from health insurance companies, but one morning a week (maybe two mornings, now) they offer free care. Their phone number is 617-666-9577. I think you can make an appointment, or just walk in.

The Mt Auburn Hospital has a walk-in center, where you can see a doctor without making an appointment. Financial arrangements for patients without health insurance can get complicated. Many people can probably afford to pay for a simple, office visit and a prescription for cheap kind of antibiotics. And if something turns out to be seriously wrong, threatening to kill or cripple, the hospital will provide care and not ask about ability to pay. But lots of common medical care falls in between, and cash-strapped hospitals can make uninsured patients jump through all kind of administrative hoops to determine what kind of free care they get.

I don't know if you need free care, or just care without advance planning. I wish you good health either way.
