One dog at the shelter I volunteer at (Hopkinton, MA) is in great need of a foster home (a home to stay in till she's adopted)-it's a no-kill shelter anyway, but she's been there the longest (like, months-the big majority only stay there for a couple weeks), and really needs a home environment ASAP...

Really sweet dog (I've walked her), pit bull or pit bull blend (seriously, this one is not aggressive)...obviously pit bulls are not popular choices, with good reason in many cases, and she's not the cutest one there by a long shot, so of course it's taking longer for her to find a home.

Anyway, if you have room to have another dog in your house for "awhile", without actually committing for life, that would be so nice for her, and she is a sweet dog. Obviously you can come check her out first!

I would do it myself, but my living situation isn't too amenable to having a dog, and I'm not home enough anyway-but those who are, especially if you already have dogs anyway...

If you might be able to do it, or know someone that would, please post or email me (suehenken@hotmail.com), and I'll give you all the info-thanks!

So cute!

We adopted our youngest cat from Hopkinton, and really liked the shelter; you rock for volunteering there. :) Sadly, my husband's way allergic to dogs, so I can't take this one in. :( Good luck!

Your hubby's allergic to dogs? Seriously? Not to interject to be an idiot, but I've never heard of that... I'm terrified of dogs, so I always BS'd and said I was allergic, which most people called me on ("There's no such thing!")... ironically, I'm deathly allergic to cats, which I adore. :/

Dog allergies are pretty common. Your cover story is fine. :)

I'm allergic to dogs. It's not fake, and it's not BS. Why wouldn't allergies to dogs exist?

Well, I meant I was BSing (since I'm not actually allergic, just afraid), but no one had actually heard of the allergy. :/

ah, that makes more sense! but it definitely is real. (It's a shame, too, because I love dogs)

I am allergic to both dogs and cats, and my allergy to dogs is a LOT worse. They give me hives and make me wheeze.

I have that reaction to cats, but fortunately cats are pretty easy to avoid (unless you enter their home, pick them up, and start skritching them... uh...). Dogs are everywhere, and always jumping up in people's faces - do you get that reaction if a friendly dog jumps on you, or passing by a dog park? Sorry to hijack the thread, I'm really curious about all these dog allergies!

I'm allergic to some dogs, but not all. I discovered this while working in an animal shelter -- most dogs didn't bother me at all, but others (usually short-haired breeds like beagles) gave me annoying allergic reactions. So yes, dog allergies exist, and in lots of varieties and strengths :)

Not the cutest? She's got a great face!

My beastie does not play well with others, but best of luck to her.

Damn. If she wasn't a pit bull, I'd take her in a minute. Unfortunately, my landlord's homeowner's insurance doesn't cover pit bulls so we can't have one.

If, however, you are in future need and have a dog who gets on with cats, please drop me a note. We'd be willing to assist.
