Where is there a good art supply shop around here? I need somewhere with a large selection of pens because I'm looking to do a very specific project that has specific needs.
Pearl and Utrecht, both near Central Square in Cambridge, have been suggested in the past. Here's the last time someone asked, though with different needs from yours.
paper source is also good for pens, and it's closer to Davis. but Pearl and Utrecht are cheaper. the Artist Supply store across from Pearl is also very good, and the staff seems less affected.
I think you mean Playtime. It's just off of Mass Ave. I have found their selection of googly eyes to be amazing in the past, but have never checked out the pen selection.
Dick Blick just sent me two coupon flyers, each with a coupon for 20% off (jan 10-19) and for 30% off (Jan 20-31). Maybe it's the time to check them out, but maybe you need pens sooner.
I can vouch for the Porter Square Bob Slate's. Friendly people who give good pen.
I'd recommend trying Playtime first, if only for its' proximity. While I ususally go there for craft supplies, they have a very large art department, and I know they also have calligraphy supplies, so I would assume that they have a good selection of 'art' pens. Good luck!
i'd second Playtime. they have a nice selection of pens and related items. always unexpectedly awesome for the random art supplies/craft needs. their dover book selection has been fantastic!
playtime is right on the bus line that goes to arlington center from clarendon hill out broadway. (at the intersection right before the parking lot end of broadway. if driving, parking on street, in that city lot, as well as free at the store around back.)
but, i'd also check pearl as well as artists supply across the street in central. bob slate, while nearby, is expensive.
(to save you time, you may wish to call these places before trekking out on your search.)
I second (or third or something) Playtime and Bobslate.
Playtime however has been one of my favorite places for my arts and or crafts needs since I was little. And don't forget that they have a downstairs that always has pretty cool stuff (though I believe the pens are not in the basement).

Artist's Supply is also cool.
Go to Pearl if you have to, I suppose.
