[personal profile] ron_newman posting in [community profile] davis_square
It is supposed to publish on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, but I have not found a printed copy anywhere of the December 19 or January 2 issue. The newspaper's website has a PDF of a December 19 issue but I don't know if it was ever distributed on paper. Anyone know more?

I'm also curious if there is a January issue of The Alewife, since their website was last updated on December 20.

I don't blame anyone for reducing publication frequency around the holidays, but usually this would be announced in advance.

What does this have to do with Davis Square? Can't the moderators do something about these unrelated posts? Won't anybody think of the children? WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN??

No, seriously, this has nothing to do with Davis Square. I think this would be a great post for your blog or maybe the Somerville group, since it is something you're interested in, but what does it have to do with Davis Square?

And your'e a mod, Ron. You should know better. You're just encouraging off-topic posting with this sort of thing.

Use some common-sense here. Both of the rags in question are of interest to the Davis Sq. community, esp. those of us who enjoy watching the Square's resident paper duke it out with the editor of the publications in question. Plus there are many self-defined Davis Sq. residents who live near North Cambridge or Powderhouse. Hell I'd consider Tufts part of the Davis Sq. neighborhood and it's on the other side of Powderhouse.

Regardless, the only person who seems upset by this is you, and you're just being a backseat mod about the whole thing.

The only thing I've heard is what was printed in the Somerville News' Newstalk for Jan. 2nd. But I don't know how much I believe what the News says on this topic.

What's up with the recent fervor around what "really" fits into the community? I'm significantly more bothered by the sudden clamoring for self-censorship than I am by a few people asking questions that might not be directly related to a specific set of city blocks.

It's an LJ community. We don't lose anything by having a post made. Nobody is put out, there's no cost to having an entry made, and so long as we're not devolving into lolcat pictures and pure snark, there's no harm being done here.

Happens in every online community I've ever been involved in, LJ or otherwise. My theory is that it's how some people cope with information overload- "if I could just keep my communities on-topic than I'd never have so many posts to read, and I'd finally achieve true internet bliss!"

Good luck with that.

alternate theory- some people are just control freaks / jerks. I try hard not to believe that one, but the evidence can be overwhelming at times!

Tom Champion's posts here about snow emergency/parking are not Davis Square specific either; they pertain to all of Somerville (but are not on the Somerville LJ). His posts are certainly welcome here.
