I am interested in getting some solar electric panels installed on my home. I know I have seen a few places in the neighbourhood with solar panels, so I'm hoping someone in this community has some experience they'd be willing to share. Thanks!

You probably know this, but I believe there are some tax incentives and other bonussy things for getting them....you might talk to someone who installs them professionally for more info.

I have no experience with this, but I was talking to my sister about it over the holidays. Supposedly you can not only power your own house, but actually sell power back to the energy companies. She pointed me here:

Another alternative is to just go up to the houses that you see the panels on and ring the doorbell. I've seen one on Highland Road and one on Rogers Ave.

I know the family who lives in the pink-trimmed house with solar panels on Highland Road. If you (the OP) want, I can check with her to see if she'd be willing to get in touch with you with some details (and/or send me something to post here . . .)

One company that's working with Marlborough-based Evergreen Solar (in which I am not an investor, but which I wrote a story about recently) is groSolar (http://grosolar.com/about_grosolar/). According to the folks at Evergreen, they've done several houses in Massachusetts.

roof space+ some money. If anyone out there has any more info or personal experiences I would love to hear. I looked into this 2 years ago and hit some dead ends and the pay back still seems long term

I know a little about this but have a friend who does solar installations for work; he also lives in davis sq. I'm sure he would be happy to discuss this with you - I could put you in touch with him or we could meet in davis somewhere and discuss it over a beer or something like that.

OK, tomorrow afternoon at Diesel. Would 1:30 work? If not, 2:00 is doable but 1:30 would be a little easier. Just confirm the specific time by post and we'll be there. My name is Matt, I'll be wearing a brick colored jacket and a black winter hat.

I'd also be curious to hear what you find out. My wife and I have been thinking about this as well.

We're also contemplating replacing our tank heater with an on-demand water heater. I found a local place that installs them, but I was wondering if anyone here has personal experience with one.
