Buy Beverages at Diesel- Support the Somerville Community Corporation

Hi Somerville Folks-

I live near Davis Sq and work at the Somerville Community Corporation (more info about SCC below). The owners of Diesel Café have selected SCC as the next recipient of their Nonprofit Quarterly Coffee Card Program. The program should generate approximately $1000 for SCC!

 
How it works: Diesel Café patrons can pick-up a free coffee card and have the card stamped each time they purchase a beverage a Diesel.  After you have received 10 stamps you can feel good knowing that you will receive a dollar off of your next drink, and SCC will also receive a dollar in return.  Drinks need not be purchased this quarter. If you already had a card with stamps on it, fill it up and redeem it by  March 31^st!

I dislike this coffee card system. It strikes me as simultaneously heavy-handed and frustrating to conflate giving money to charity and having a cup of coffee; the advantage of the loyalty card is that it rewards frequent purchases, not that it assuages the social conscience of the purchaser.

This is a fine organization, but I'd be much happier if Diesel had a big sign with a charity's info and a donation bin, or if they donated money from, say, the pool tables or photo booth. Removing the ability to grab a free drink every week and a half simply removed my desire to drink their coffee in favor of going to Grand Prix.

What duh? They didn't provide any other contact info about the charity AT ALL. I thought it might be vaguely useful to let them know that people might want to help out without having to give their custom to any particular merchant.
