Update: "I currently manage complaints for GlobeDirect. Any issues, feel free to drop me a line at 508 871 1910 (my direct line) or jane.segaloff@globe.com." - Globe Direct employee

The number to cancel listed on the Globe Direct is 508-871-1900.

If that doesn't work for you, call:
Director of Sales at The Globe, which wholly owns the Globe Direct
Susan Hunt Stevens
617-929-7310

This process was infuriating for me. When I gave up on getting anyone responsive at the Globe Direct, I started working on The Globe because they own it. Their response, after I told them I had made the proper attempts to cancel, was "I guess there's not really much more you can do." Would you like to guess how I felt?

Well, here's my log:

Mon Oct 8 12:47:33 EDT 2007 Left voicemail.
Tue Oct 9 12:30:07 EDT 2007 Left voicemail.
Mon Oct 15 18:38:42 EDT 2007 got another Globe Direct, left voicemail.
Sat Oct 20 14:23:09 EDT 2007 got another Globe Direct, called Globe, was told to talk to director of sales, Suzan Hunt Stevens, 617-929-7310
Wed Oct 24 14:47:42 EDT 2007
Wed Oct 24 14:51:07 EDT 2007 Suzan Hunt Stevens "out of office until Monday 29th... for immediate assistance call Joanne Wort "I will definitely call you right back today" (of course she never did)
Fri Oct 26 14:37:48 EDT 2007 18 days, 7 calls. Left voicemail for Joanne Wort
Mon Oct 29 10:21:38 EDT 2007 Got a call from Joanne saying she told them to stop sending and will follow up with me again, and the person in charge of Globe Direct will follow up on the fact that they never responded to me.

Every one of the voicemails included my name, phone number and address (as printed on my Globe Direct). This did eventually work.

a lot of postal carriers don't even look at the address on bulk mail - they just give a copy to everyone. I frequently get bulk mail addressed to other units in my complex, for example, and when I asked the postal carrier about it, he indicated that some other unit probably got the one addressed to me.

I'm not sure how effective it would be to get the Globe to stop sending me a copy, since my carrier will give me someone else's copy. Of course, if the Globe does stop sending one to my address, that's one less copy being delivered, which is good from a conservation standpoint, even if I still get one in my box.

Did you call the number on the Have You Seen me card? I have never had a problem at any address I've lived doing that -- no process like this.

Here's a better contact to try:

Jane Segaloff
Globe Direct Data Processor I
jsegaloff@globe.com
508-871-1910

Jane told me she can remove people from the distribution list if they want.
I'm not positive, but I'm guessing the sales director doesn't have much to do with the address list.

Thanks for the tip. I just called the Globe Direct number you provided, and it was relatively painless.

I selected Option 1 for "delivery issues", then selected Option 2 to "report a delivery issue". A pleasant person answered, and I explained that I want to stop delivery of the Globe Direct mailers. She took my address, asked which apartment, and said I should be all set. We'll see.

I deal with post offices all the time and believe me, this is not uncommon. Talk to your local delivery supervisor (call the PO and ask for that title specifically), and if s/he can't help you, go to the Postmaster. Carriers are not supposed to leave mail in that condition.

Well, today is Thursday so I'd say you'll see any changes I made take effect hopefully next week or at worst the week after. The lag time happens because all our product is produced a week in advance.

Pardon the redundant comment; I'm deleting my earlier ones in an effort to protect my personal journal.

Friendly note from a GlobeDirect employee

Hi Davis Square folks,

I currently manage complaints for GlobeDirect. Any issues, feel free to drop me a line at 508 871 1910 (my direct line) or jane.segaloff@globe.com. We really don't mind stopping the mailings to anyone at all- saving paper makes us happy!

OP, I'm so sorry the process took you so long. I've been doing this job for a little under a year now, and I'm currently taking all our complaints live while I'm in the office so you should see about a week to two weeks turnaround for any complaint's resolution.

I didn't really want to link my work life to my livejournal, but my only alternative was to make a sockpuppet which is kinda stupid so I guess I'll take my chances.

So, several months later now, did it work?

It did, indeed. Haven't gotten those cursed flyers in months! Now, to stop Val-Pak!
