Hi all -
I just messed up my knee snowboarding and need to go have it looked at. Anyone have a good hospital recommendation in the area. I have a car and someone to drive but I am hoping to not have to go all the way to MGH.
Thanks

Nearest hospitals are Somerville Hospital off Highland Avenue, and Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge.

Mt Auburn Hospital in Cambridge (on Mt. Auburn St.) is the best in Somerville/Cambridge.

But before going to an emergency room, does your primary care physician practice have a 'urgent care' facility?

MGH will serve you much, much better if there's something wrong enough with it to need an orthopedist. the ones at Mount Auburn suck.
i can recommend a fantastic one if you need follow-up care after the ER.

THe Somerville ER isn't great; I've gone in there and failed to find anyone, and once someone had a pet dog in the ER. The Cambridge Hospital, like Youville or next to it, on Cambridge street, has a nice quiet ER. For this problem, anywhere is probably fine.

i agree. mass general is the #3 hospital in the country wrt orthopaedics according to US News and World Report. (http://health.usnews.com/usnews/health/best-hospitals/search.php?spec=ihqorth)

knees are so fragile - don't short change your care.

Really? I've had very nice experiences there!

I would suck it up and head to MGH. I had a knee injury that required an ER visit to Somerville and thanks to them, I nearly lost my leg.

And Cambridge? Pfeh. Their ER isn't any better. I'd sooner take the T to MGH than drive to either of those.

no matter where you go, take a book (or several). Your wait could be quite lengthy.

My BF blew out his knee skiing a few years back, and highly recommends Kennedy Brothers PT in Downtown Crossing.

Oh wait, you mean right now -- sorry, I fail here. But it's something to keep in mind in the coming weeks. Best of luck to you.

Seriously, Somerville Hospital is where healthy people go to die. Mount Auburn or MGH are much better. Good luck, and I hope you feel better.

I don't have any experience with the hospitals in question but I do believe that [livejournal.com profile] bbbsg knows more about knee injuries than anyone else on [livejournal.com profile] davis_square or, possibly, the world. When she talks, I listen.

A dog in the ER when you're in for an asthma attack does not increase one's confidence in the ER. We lived across the street from it for a while. :) My housemate once went around and around the building trying to find a person because the doors were locked. It was kinda special. But that was more than 5 years ago.

My experience at Cambridge was recent and very positive.

I would go to the Somerville Hospital for a few stitches or some antibiotics or something straightforward but not over-the-counter. I would not choose to go for complex or subtle diagnosis and treatment, though I've had good PT there too.
