Before we plan the next event, I'd like to get input about where we go from here. I think its fair that Orleans be the next location because they were third. But, in a more general sense, we should figure out whether we should expand the event to more people and have a greater pool of locations.

I sort of feel that there are maybe only 2 or 3 bars in Davis Square itself that would be a suitable location for us. If we keep hitting the same bars again and again, we might be imposing on the generosity of bar owners. Alternatively, we can expand the pool of bars or have the event less frequently. Also, I'd like your input about expanding the event to people from [livejournal.com profile] b0st0n.

Edit: I'll count the results as "official" at noon on Friday.

I vote we keep it [livejournal.com profile] davis_square. There is a lot of [livejournal.com profile] b0st0n crossover in the first place, and including [livejournal.com profile] b0st0n would get unwieldly fast, I think.

Also, we should keep it close to Davis Square because I'm lazy. But if you twist my arm I'd agree to go to Porter.

Unless the original poll results changed since you looked (which is possible since LJ doesn't allow you to 'close' a poll), Orleans finished second while PJ Ryan's was third.

Let's keep it focused on [livejournal.com profile] davis_square. There is no requirement that bar owners continue to give us free food; we can pay for it. Porter, Teele, Powderhouse, and Ball squares are all fine with me, but not much beyond there.

Hell, we already do. We packed PJ Ryan's and you could tell they were grateful for the business. Besides, I don't want that filthy b0st0n rabble mingling with us, the golden glorious master race of Davis Square.

In all seriousness, I wouldn't heavily promote it, but if you want to bring in b0st0n folk I'd put up a note the day before the event.

We could also open it up to any bar on Mass. Ave. between Porter Square and Route 16, since that's all easily walkable from Davis. That gives us Pizzeria Uno, Christopher's, Newtowne, Joe Sent Me, and I forget what else.

Just a suggestion.

If we did make it once a month, maybe we could regularize the date and work with one or two bars who'd be willing to have us. For example, we could plan to meet at 7 on the second Tuesday of the month, and alternate between the Burren and Orleans.

Even if we go to a different bar every time, I still like the idea of having a "regular" date.

Ooh, that's a good idea! I really liked the set up at the Burren as well, and that way, we won't wear them out too badly.

Look at the conservative and liberal posters agreeing!!

It's an uncomfortable sensation at first.

Don't worry. It won't last.

One thing to keep in mind: once baseball season starts up again, it may be hard to arrange for a place that doesn't have the TV blaring.

Once the weather turns a bit nicer, how about an outdoor meetup in some casual non-bar location, like the playground/field on Holland Street by the parking office?

I mean, I heart you all, [livejournal.com profile] davis_square, really I do. But I don't love you enough to spend $50 on a babysitter so I can watch you get drunk.
Well, unless maybe the Tom Champion drunk-dialing thing came to fruition. That might be worth at least a few bucks.

Anyway, given that I have kids and don't drink, I can't foresee myself coming to any of the meetups in the near future if they continue to take place at 7pm on weeknights, particularly at bars. But would love to meet some of y'all F2F at some point. So this is my feeble plea for an alternate time and location, at least once in a while, if the meetup thing becomes a regular event.

I don't think any bar is going to offer us free munchies out of the kindness of their hearts. They're doing that because we're bringing them a fair bit of business on what would otherwise be an off day for them and they'd like to encourage us to do so regularly. I'm certain that the fact that we are a rather pleasant crowd of people who gave notice that we were coming and are almost entirely local to the area (ie likely to return individually if we like the place) helps our cause trememendously.

Toad fits those criteria, though I bet it's too small.

My only argument for mentioning the meetups in b0st0n is that there may be people in there that live here but don't know about the davis square community. (Hell, that's how I found out that there was one.)

I'd rather see the community pimped to the b0st0n folks, then, than our meetups. I'm only really interested in meeting up with the people who are part of *this* community, since I'm not as interested in the b0st0n community.

Hm...I think I said that wrong...I think we're saying the same thing - I would want davis square type people there but have people from davis who are in b0st0n know about it. (Although now that I see this comment I realize I may have made this more confusing, lol.)

Toad is both tiny and a live music venue, seven nights a week. Not really what we want for this.
