Here are the films playing this week at the Tufts Free Cinema (including a couple tonight). I'll make additions and changes as they happen across my desk.
There are lots more movies outside the Davis Square area for those willing to wander out, including Harvard, MIT and BU.
See the complete Boston-area calendar online. There are two ways to access it:
• Directly through the link Boston Free Films
• Add the calendar through Google Calendar. Search for Joe’s BFF – Boston Free Films (any phrase should find it) and you can incorporate it with your own calendar.
The best place to keep up-to-date on Tufts happenings is Tuftslife, where most student events are listed. The official school calendar at http://events.tufts.edu/ will also show some school events as well. Tuftslife doesn't do last minute changes, so the calendar won’t always be accurate. .
Check for last minute changes or contact the organizers to make sure events are still happening, especially in case of inclement weather.

Date: 2008-02-24 08:47 pm (UTC)I'll give you a couple of examples:
* Film Series: I met one of the organizers at last year's Independent Film Festival of Boston. I asked and he said they are always glad to have anyone who wants to attend come to their screenings and that it was okay to let other people know. They really just want people to come and enjoy the films (especially the non-mainstream ones, which don't get much of a crowd).
* French Film Experience: I've met the faculty who organize it and they have welcomed me with open arms. They do include this event on the Tufts main calendar and the audience is "all" which means the public as well (see http://events.tufts.edu/details.php?eventid=10025&evdate=2008-02-24 ).
* I've gone to several films which are sponsored by clubs and they have been especially happy to have someone come to see it (often these are ethnic oriented films from their homelands). They are amazed anyone outside the campus knows about the events and are happy to share.
I exclude any events which require a Tufts ID (very rare - Tufts has a ticketing system for limited seating events) or that are in a dorm (Sophia Gordon being an exception because you can see the room from the street) or that seem to be limited in some way such as a club meeting (though I might include those with an explanation). Occasionally you'll get an odd moment, such as the professor introducing tonight's film entirely in French, but it's rare.
I've been going to movies (and other events) since 2002 with no issues at all (other than an unannounced schedule change or trouble getting into a certain building).
Most film events average 10-20 people, so it's not like anyone would be taking a seat away from a Tufts student. When I went to a Film Series film last night, half the 13 people were over the age of 35.
I hope this helps.
