Greetings Y'all
I love this site i discovered it while googling. I'm a big fan of Magpie, Poor little Rich Girl, Diva Lounge, JPlick, D2 and goodwill Anyways i was wondering if anyone knew of any retail spaces that are or will be coming available in davis. I have a fun urban clothing store in the south end that i want to move to davis.  I have customers in the area and also hangout in the area, I have friends that live and ran for city alderman and big community supporters and one of my girlfriends Yumiko djs and Diva Lounge on Wednesday nights I highly recommend you check it out and have the SHIVA cocktail that will heat you up.  I would love LOVE to be in davis square so if anyone knows shoot me a email billieandlola@comcast.net

You might find some leads in some of the posts people here have tagged "local businesses", which often refer to closings & relocations.

There's a single empty storefront on Highland Avenue, in the little strip of stores between Kickass Cupcakes and Alfresco.

Also, it looks like the former Dahn Yoga on Holland Street is being subdivided. One part has a sign advertising a forthcoming women's clothing boutique, but the other part still has a For Lease sign.

Finally, Dollar Days on Highland Avenue (next to Blue Shirt Cafe) went out of business two months ago. The storefront is still vacant.

Who is your friend who ran for alderman?

Must be Marty Martinez. Anyway, good luck with your search. Another suggestion: talk to the owners of the stores you patronize now, such as Magpie. They may have more leads for you.

There's the McIntyre and Moore space at 255 Elm, next to Poor Little Rich Girl, I think. It looks like it is 10,000 SF, and rents for $25 per square foot, and it's available 4/1/2008.

There are two storefronts available there now, one on either side of When Pigs Fly, it looks like the florist has closed.

I love Diva's Shiva. I can't wait until I can have one (or 10) again.

Already? The florist has only been open a couple of months.

But it's a huuuuge space, which is one reason the bookstore is moving out.

And I didn't even notice it until a couple weeks ago, even though I go to Kickass all the time.

I may be singularly unobservant (in fact probably am), but that can't have been a good sign.

I heard from a reliable source that rent in that block just went through the roof, thus the recent complete turnover of every business there.

Having rented in that building where KickAss Cupcakes is... If you're considering it I'd say you should take a close look whether the rent makes sense for your business given the small size of the spaces and the fact that it's located a bit off the beaten path. The rent was high when we were there (about $33/sqft) and now I hear the rents in that building are even higher. But I'm sure you know your limits given that you own a store already! :)

The only other place I can think of is that former dollar store next to Blue Shirt Cafe which is empty (also mentioned above).

Like someone said above, it's probably worth popping into a variety of stores and asking if any rumors are abuzz about people moving out any time soon, etc.

Alderman Gewirtz might know how to get in touch with the Dollar Days landlord. And Leah's quite friendly -- just stop by Magpie some time and talk to her.

Hi there,

I have a friend that has also been looking in Davis for almost two years.

She has been really discouraged and is finally looking elsewhere sadly.

Dollar Days is about 400 sq. ft. and is almost $5000 a month.

The Dahn yoga space was also 5k.

The spaces up near Kickass cupcakes are super pricey for where they are, people just don't seem to want to walk the extra block.

The old Enterprise is for rent but that is 20k a month,or at least that is what she was told when she contacted the realtor.

I know there are some spaces in Teele Square, but I know it's not Davis. :(

I can handle them fine (I sip), but my wallet usually throws up after I'm done paying the bill! : D

Speaking solely as a customer, yeah, it is a pain to go that extra block. It's just sort of dark and unencouraging - you feel like you're leaving the Square.

Meanwhile, I walk up there at least twice a month these days to go to When Pigs Fly. They seem to be doing quite well and I think they're a good draw for the block.

48-50 Grove Street has For Rent signs on it. This is where Spark Crafts used to be. It's a bit out of the way, though.
