We know who to look for on the 18th!

As Yoda would say,
Have drinks with us will you soon?
Please Tom Champion?

you just want to get him liquored up so he'll drunk dial everyone.

No, no, no. We want to get him liquored up so he'll tell us how to log into the autodialer system.

Yeah, and then we get whoever can do the best impression onto the system to have him declare a Brazilian fire drill.

wait, what's a brazilian fire drill? does it involve people running around yelling GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL and playing soccer football?

As a female, Brazillian calls something else to mind. It also involves much yelling.

I have NEVER gotten that. A female friend of mine told her her boyfriend wanted her to get a Brazilian, and she wanted my advice.

I told her if he doesn't go first, dump his ass.

EXCELLENT advice.

It's also called a Bavarian fire drill. Essentially you roust people out of their desks, lead them in a big line through a building and back to their desks.

It's an illustration in how people tend to go along in groups and not challenge authority. I've seen it done at car intersections, hotels, the works.

ahh. those i've heard of.

wait, does this mean there's a brazillian illuminati, competing with the bavarian illuminati.

dude.

From: [identity profile] thetathx1138.livejournal.com
They compete for control of the world. Why do you think the swimsuits are so skimpy?

We always called this a "Chinese fire drill" growing up.

Although I've never been to China, I have been to Brazil, and orderly line-ups are not their best thing there.

Tom, I didn't know that you used to be a stage actor! You should come audition at Theatre@First (http://www.theatreatfirst.org) sometime. :-)

And they didn't even pick my best haiku. Humph.

Still, nice to see the faces behind those golden tones. Definitely not a face made for radio. I'm looking forward to the Tom Champion video podcast on iTunes.

it's more amusing that they mentioned the lolcat, and just simply referred to it as a lolcat.

From: [identity profile] mamajoan.livejournal.com
Yeah, I noticed that too -- that, and the part where they refer to "Davis Square Live Journal" without in any way explaining what that might be.

It's either hilarious,or it's bad journalism. Or some of both, of course.

I enjoyed that too. What it means to me is that both are now so well-known that they don't require explanation.

why not go all the way?

They mention the lolcat and namecheck the livejournal, and yet they missed the chance to tie-in another near-meme--"...has a posse"--opting instead to use the pedestrian "fan club." Tsk tsk!

I felt the biggest oversight was the lack of any mention of Ron Newman.

No, biggest oversight is they didn't pick up my stellar haiku. I better get over on that newfangled Facebook thing and Friend him. His teenage daughter is either really amused or just mortified about dad's notoriety. I sure hope it's the former.

Righteous!

This is all very amusing for those of us who don't live in the city but spend a lot of time there, and are only getting the fan phenomenon second-hand. I wish the Glob had linked to an audio clip so the rest of us could understand why his voice is so distinctive. Anyone have an MP3?

I did a quick search at Boston.com for "LiveJournal" or "Live Journal". I found one eariler article: a blog roundup by UniversalHub's Adam Gaffin, which included this:
On Davis Square Live Journal , a writer who goes by Unbelman is a bit put off by the [ice cream] truck:

"I've been hearing it play 'Send in The Clowns' SO LOUDLY and it belches out a lot of exhaust. When I heard it, I went looking for what the source of the noise was. I smelled it before I saw it. And it looks so beat up. Lots of old and peeling - off stickers on the side."

This week-end marked the official opening of 'Road Race Season'. Every Sunday from now through approximately November will feature a road race of some sort to support some type of worthwhile cause on a pre-determined route through the city. Any chance Tom could call us with a heads-up on the date, time, route, and street closings/delays regarding each race? It's really irritating to be trying to get to Church/work/store, etc., and encounter unexpected street closings without adequate signage/information. IOften I try to avoid it only to find I have turned in the same direction as the race! Any thoughts?
