Where's Waldo? Right here in Davis Square

Candlewick Press, publisher of Where's Waldo? and other fine children's books, has moved into the Dover Plaza building behind the Somerville Theatre. They are in the space formerly occupied by the Share Group telemarketing firm.

Here's a Somerville Journal article on our newest Davis Square business.

When I first moved to Davis Square in 1992, the owner of that building tried to turn it into a small Asian-themed mall and food court, like the Porter Exchange. Modern Brewer also briefly moved there from nearby Mass. Ave. The mall failed quickly, and Modern Brewer returned to Mass. Ave. Some time later, Share Group moved in.

Sorry, I don't. I'm not sure I even went to the food court during the short period of time it was open.

Ron, do you know who was in that space before? I'm always amazed at some of the random folks in and out of that area. Is there an AA meeting there or something?

Share Group, a telemarketing firm for non-profits and political organizations, formerly occupied the space. (I mentioned that in my post.) For the building's earlier history, see my comment above.

A Mormon church continues to occupy a small section of the building.

Very interesting. I often walk in that direction but never think to just look at the signage.

I don't think Share Group ever had an exterior sign.

The building also used to have a really cool architecture office that doubled as an art gallery and performance space by night. It was called Gallery Bershad, and its web site remains to this day.

I remember the Bershad days. That was a great space - I saw The Strokes there in 2001 jsut before they closed.

lots of the "better" children's books are published by candlewick press. they have been in cambridge for years, along with barefoot books (another children's book publisher). it's nice to know that candlewick press is now in somerville!
