Does anyone know of places in the immediate Davis area that would host open life drawing sessions -ie. have a space and facilitate the hiring of models?   Willoughby and Baltic used to, but I believe they've stopped at this point.  Any other suggestions?

I don't know, but I suggest phoning or e-mailing the Somerville Arts Council with this question.

Check out the Cambridge Center for Adult Education. I took a drawing class through the CCAE, in Harvard Square, a number of years ago, and I remember there were also open drawing sessions in addition to the scheduled classes.

Yes, you are right. We used to host Life Drawing on Sunday mornings, but ultimately started to lose too much money on it. The models cost $15 an hour and usually require a three hour minimum. We used to give them $50 for the three hours.

I tried to guage how many people were going to show up before the session to be sure we could afford the model, and week after week many people would tell me they were going to show up, but usually there were between one and three of us.

If you knew you had a group of people that were interested in life drawing together and were willing to be responsible for paying the model, I'd be happy to loan you use of the space in return for a few dollars for heat. I can't give the space out to one person and a model because of liability issues.

The Zeitgeist used to also host life drawing on Sunday mornings, but I'm not sure they are doing that anymore. You might want to check with "Out of the Blue" in Central Square as well. Otherwise, it is the Cambridge Center for Adult Education.

It's not in Somerville, but I've been wanting to make it to Dr Sketchy's anti-art school cababaret life drawing for a while and never seem to be able to swing it.
