I was wondering if there was anyone who would be willing to teach me? I will trade a lunch in Davis for your experience.
Thanks!!

Date: 2008-03-18 07:15 pm (UTC)I go to a knitting group in Union Square (Bloc 11, Thursday nights @ 7:00ish). We're all already experienced knitters, but surrounding myself with people who could help me once I got the basic knit stitch down was very helpful when I was trying to learn. Then again, on top of being a notoriously terrible teacher, I'm also not great with one-on-one things :) and you might learn differently.

Date: 2008-03-18 08:03 pm (UTC)You might want to figure out what kinds of things you want to make before figuring out which technique you want to learn. Crochet seems to be better for things that go in circles, and knitting is better for things that go in straight lines, if easier is better. Also what kind of coordination you're better at. I look at crochet and go "Ack! So many knots to learn?" and crocheters have looked at my knitting and said "Ack! Two needles?!"

Crocheting the Great Barrier Reef
Check out all the links in the left column.
They are holding crochet workshops around the country, I think, and anyone can send in something, kind of like the AIDS quilt.
-- or learn to crochet with plastic bags and contribute to the crocheted Great Garbage Patch (real name, and its floating in the ocean near Hawaii, made up of all our disgusting plastic throwaway bags and bottles)
