does anyone know if any places downtown are going to be open for the red sox games next week?  they are opening in japan and the games are at 6 am in the morning.  I wouldn't mind grabbing some breakfast and watching the games if anything is going to be open for that.

I dunno but if you find out, let me know...my boyfriend is in Japan until next week and I don't think it's on the schedule for him, but I would love to check that out.

Downtown, as in Boston, a place that is not in Davis Square?

Whatever...

Mike's will probably have the game on. (What time does the Sligo Pub open?)

Mike's hasn't served breakfast for several years, though. Are they making an exception for these two games?

Probably not. When did breakfast hit the skids? They were serving it as late as ... um ... 2003.

Rosebud?

Rosebud has great breakfast, but an undersized television. Still, there's a couple of booths and the counter both in close proximity. And the food is great.

Sorry, I'm assuming you mean Davis Square, not downtown Boston, as it's a Davis Square LJ. If I'm mistaken, forgive me.

What time does Rosebud open? I'd be surprised if they're open that early.

Does Charley's Kitchen in Harvard Square offer breakfast?

No idea on all three counts, but I'd call Rosebud. Might be the best option if they are open. Right in Davis, and IIRC, the owners are Sox fans.

If you're asking about downtown Boston, this isn't the right place. Try [livejournal.com profile] b0st0n instead.

However, I'd love to hear about places in Somerville or Cambridge that are showing the games.

It's a schlep from Davis Square, but I recall the Dunkin Donuts on Broadway in East Arlington having a couple of TVs... perhaps they could be convinced to show the game?

Though I can't imagine wanting to sit in a DD for more than 15 minutes, let alone a 2.5+ hour baseball game.

Haha, I know, though I can't imagine anything open that early (6am) besides places like DD's, McD's, etc.

I suggest that you edit your post to say "in or near Davis Square" instead of "downtown". Even though we have Downtown Wine and Spirits, nobody uses the word "downtown" to mean Davis Square (or any other part of Somerville or Cambridge). -- Your friendly co-moderator

keeping in mind the sox are talking about not going now - due to some payment issues for the coaches and training staff.... that being said...

my kitchen & living room will be serving both breakfast, nachos, and whatever the hell else I want it to at 6:05 a.m.

God, if I sleep through this I'll be furious.

Wouldn't that mean forfeiting the two games with Oakland?

I would imagine the same situation stands with the A's. Apparently the team is get about 40,000 dollars for the trip, and the coaches and trainers were supposed to get that also, but now that's not the case. The players haven't started the 12 o'clock spring training game today due to this, and in an interview Lowell was quoted saying something along the lines of they "won't goto Japan until the matter is resolved"

Sorry for falling of the Davis Sq. topic - but this is Red Sox Nation dammit.

update: negotiations we're taken care of, everyone gets paid more than we'll collectively make in a year.

Again - sorry for the sports talk.

is there a red sox live journal I can hang out at?

Sound Bites opens at 7. They have several big screen TVs.

Sounds like the Trickettes might be able to put away some breakfast before school as well. Double Bonus!

Hey, maybe we could arrange to meet at last there?

From: [identity profile] somertricky.livejournal.com
Why not? This is still going to be largely dependent on thugging the Trickettes out of bed by 6:30 or so, but they're up for it in theory.

Besides, the little one has a major Jones for the choclate chip pancakes. I think I've seen enough photos of you to pick you out of a lineup, so if we're there, I'll tag you.

The kiddo now wants to go, too, because "kids are made for watching TV and eating French toast and cheering for the Red Sox."

And it's not often you can do all three at the same time.

I enjoyed meeting [livejournal.com profile] somertricky and the Trickettes this morning. Were you there, too, [livejournal.com profile] pearlythebunny ?

Yasser told me that they had opened at 5:30 in response to phone calls the day before -- and then nobody showed up! I got there at their normal opening time of 7.

From: [identity profile] pearlythebunny.livejournal.com
I hope some people were there by 7. I was a little worried yesterday that there might be a line at 7.

However, the kiddo didn't want to get up this morning, and I seem to have caught the illness she had last week, so I was more than happy to go back to bed instead of going out to eat (although I did listen to the game on the car radio driving the kiddo to school).

When I got there at 7, there were maybe ten people in the place. More arrived as the game went on, but it never got the least bit crowded. I felt bad for the owner.

Date: 2008-03-25 08:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] pearlythebunny.livejournal.com
Well, I wouldn't feel too sorry for the owner because I think that place is doing well, but it must have been a drag for him to open at 5:30 and not have any customers.

I wonder how many people dragged themselves over to the Holiday Inn and ate sushi at 5:30 in the morning?

And next time I see you around (and I often do), I'll introduce myself.

Grand Prix Cafe, at Mass. Ave. and Day Street, has a big TV, serves breakfast, and normally opens at 7:30 am. I don't know if they're planning to open earlier for the games.

Joshua Tree will open if you RSVP

For the 2008 Red Sox opening day in Japan, the Joshua Tree will open if demand is strong enough: so far 5 people in the last 30 minutes have called asking if they will be open. If you can rally a group and RSVP to the JT, it'd be fun :)

The manager said he'd have to have at least 50 people in to make it worth his time and $. I've called all around and there's almost nothing going on this side of the river.

Soundbites opens at 7.

Maybe you should post this higher up? Most people won't scroll down to read a post from March 18th.
