May meet-up

Thanks to everyone that came out last night. It was a nice mix of meeting new people and seeing old friends (no, I'm not making an age joke).

We do need to decide a place for May, and I'm open for suggestions. There isn't many new places in Davis Square that might work for a larger group. Just informally talking to some people, here are some suggestions that people have mentioned. One is possibly have it in the lounge area of Sabur. Something that was also mentioned is Redbones.

We could also go back to PJ Ryans, they liked us and are willing to have us back there.

People generally want to stay in Davis Square, but I think bars very close to Davis (such as on Mass Ave) might be acceptable.

Please make any suggestions here.

P.S. Highlights from last night: 1) Meeting someone and having them say "you are the one with the annoying cowbell icon?". 2) Trying to explain ethnomethodology while highly intoxicated at 1 am.

Imagine trying to understand the explanation of ethnomethodology while highly intoxicated at 1am.

Places on Mass. Ave. that I recall listing in earlier posts: Spirit, Newtowne Grille, Christopher's, and Joe Sent Me.

I'm very fond of Joe Sent Me. They aren't huge, but on non-peak nights without any significant sports events, they can be ghostly empty.

They're very friendly folks, the food is quite good (I still think they may be the best burgers in Cambridge), the beer selection is acceptable if nothing special. And us North Cantabrigians are always trying to think of ways to siphon some of the Davis gold into our underloved Mass Ave establishments.

Good Food Cafe might also be a good non-bar idea, if they can pull together enough chairs. They certainly have the raw square footage.

It's a harsh world.

You know, the Burren is excellent! I’d be entirely content staying there unless we’re worried about wearing out our welcome.

Thanks again for making this happen!

I like the idea of moving around, so we discover other places we haven't yet been to.

No, seriously, can we have a meet up that isn't just 21+? I want friends in the area and I hate everyone my age but I am not yet of age. I'm an old lady.

Fuck it, i'll probably just have a glass of red wine for my heart and play scrabble til 9:30 and go to bed.

Maybe May is a good month for that, esp. as bar suggestions are sluggish right now. Perhaps Sacco's? Is Lanes and Games too far away?

I'd love a Sacco's meet-up. Lanes and Games isn't that far away, but it's far enough to be "not Davis".

I guess Diesel is a suggestion as well, though I wonder if we'd have trouble fitting.

God, no, not another Diesel meet-up.

... I take it one did poorly there before?

No. It's mainly a traffic issue. Groups of sufficient size usually park themselves in the back near the couches and create a bit of a roadblock for other customers.

But if we're in the back, nobody would need to go past us.

Nah, but there are already meet-ups there almost every night and the back there has all the cave-like ambiance of a bar without the booze. If we're not going to drink (or bowl), I think we should try for an outdoor meet-up as soon as it's warm enough.

Wow, it went til 1 a.m., eh? I'll have to check it out next month.

I'm sorry I didn't make it. I fell ill late in the day. Ordinarily, pickling myself is the appropriate response, but I wasn't able to get very far.

Apologies! Anywhoo, we had a nice night at home. I still have that 20/20 and Goats do roam. You won't get away, trust me...;o)
