second-best dentist in Davis Square area?
Apr. 4th, 2008 09:27 amI've read through the memories and put myself on Dr. Cook's waiting list, but since I really probably should see a dentist something before 2010...does anyone have recommendations for the second-most-awesome dentist in the area?

Date: 2008-04-04 03:38 pm (UTC)Also, do you get any vibes from them on their collective attitude on oral piercings? I know my risks--better than most dentists, I'd wager--and I refuse to take attitude from any doctor or dentist. If they're going to cop a 'tude, I might as well not waste my time.

Okay, so maybe I'll not to disturb them with my business or money.
In fairness, their *full* statement is rather measured, for something coming from the medical profession, and I guess I'm glad to have it up front. Lets me make a more informed decision.

Date: 2008-04-04 06:36 pm (UTC)I recently google-stalked him and found out he also does free or low-cost dental work for kids who can't afford dental care. Besides a couple of dental degrees, he has a masters in public health.

Date: 2008-04-06 01:43 am (UTC)Concerned, I went to see Dr. Parrella down the street. It was absolutely wonderful. They were thorough, nice, and professional. If you can get an appointment, go to Dr. Parrella, hands down-- (617) 625-3022.

Date: 2008-06-19 07:01 pm (UTC)Now, I'm pretty regular at the dentist and the three dentists I've had before have done the usual cleaning and filling routine. So here was the Parella approach:
- *NO* cleaning the first time, instead an "evaluation" and recommendation for a deep clean that would cost me $250 after insurance
- Oral surgeon recommendation to have my wisdom teeth removed (even though they're causing me no problems, touch wood)
- A bacterial culture that apparently indicated a bacteria that the doctor recommended I treat with antibiotics
- Basically ignored a problem I was reporting ("I don't see anything right now")
When I finally did meet Parella (I was wondering if I'd see him at all after an hour and a half with the hygenist) he stayed for about 30 seconds and vanished before I could ask him any questions leaving the hygenist to interpret his hurried commentary.
Today, I went to Paul Shick at Somerville Dental down the street and had a great experience. Cleaning was done in twenty minutes and I thought he was thorough. Listened to my one complaint and quickly diagnosed a cavity under an old filling and spotted another one that was just starting. In all, done in about a half hour and going back in a couple of weeks for a filling. Thank goodness!
