The post about infant care below reminded me that my friend is desperately searching for preschool for the fall. She was wait-listed at every center to which she applied. Ideally, she's looking for a two- or three-day-a-week option, as she only works part-time. Thanks!

A recent post in SomervilleMoms indicated that there were some openings in the Leaning Circle Preschool, it's on Highland Ave, near Central St.

The Sacramento Street Preschool has 2- and 3-day options. Many of the parents are academics from foreign countries, who go back home at any time during the year, so there are often openings.

There's a parent coop preschool in the Elizabeth Peabody house in Somerville that has 2- and 3-day options. It's only a half-day program, however.

The Leslie Ellis School in Arlington typically still has a few openings in the summer, but I don't think the school has anything other than a 5-day program.

She might try Rogers Pierce (http://www.rogerspierce.org/) in Arlington Center. They're just enrolling for the fall, and I think they have space. Very flexible, non-profit, and a loving environment which is not college prep.

what I know re: Lesley Ellis School

My friends' kids who were 3-3 1/2 in Sept 2007 go 3 days this school year, but next school year, there is only 5-day schedule.

Have you looked at the Somerville Public Schools? They have a great pre-school program, however, I believe it is 5-days/week, with no options.

i think that program is only for pre-k (i.e., 4- and 5-year olds). the only choices for 3-yo children are private schools.

have you tried gardern nursery school (www.gardennurseryschool.org)? it's a *very* part time preschool (tu, th 9-1 for the 3-yos, m-w-f 9-1 for the 4-yos). i believe they are currently full but it's always a good idea to get waitlisted. we were waitlisted last year and got in!. it's a wonderful co-op preschool in the heart of harvard square (lots of the families there in the davis sq. area).

The Somerville Public Schools SMILE program is for children who are 4 by August 31, and it is five days a week. But, their ECIP program is for children who are 3 or 4 by August 31, and it is four days a week (no school on Wednesdays). It is for children with special needs and "typically developing peers." Information on the lottery for this program is available at http://www.somerville.k12.ma.us/education/dept/dept.php?sectionid=32
